#Croissants+Drama: “Emily In Paris” Review
January 12, 2022
I was scrolling through Netflix a few months ago when I discovered this show called Emily in Paris. I had watched about the first five minutes of it and then forgotten about it.
Until recently, when I stumbled upon it again, but this time I kept watching it and I have to say, “Je l’aime!” (I love it!)
Emily in Paris is in its second season featuring Emily, played by actress Lily Collins, as a bubbly, positive American marketing executive who lands her dream job in Paris. She enters the less bubbly and more serious, sophisticated French world of fashion, parties, croissants, love, and drama. The show takes viewers through her journey of finding her way through the City of Love. But, throughout her time there, she makes mistakes and faces adversities along the way, like getting her cold boss’s approval, affairs, and heartbreak.
Some of the scenes were kind of cheesy and a bit cliche, but also had a comedic and sarcastic vibe that worked together perfectly. Watching the show definitely boosted my mood. In fact, throughout times like COVID, watching a show like this which has a lot of color and fun is a great way to escape reality where things aren’t so stressful and just go on an adventure in Paris with Emily.
The last thing I want to compliment about the show is her wardrobe. It was so creative and fun, which I’m not surprised, being that it was inspired by Sex and the City, a show known for its outrageous and iconic fashion. And it’s no wonder as Darren Star, the creator of the former, is the show runner for Emily. Her outfits were so colorful: from bright colored coats to whimsical dresses! The fashion in Emily in Paris was very cool and refreshing to see, since my fashion sense is quite simple and plain. I could definitely take a few notes from Emily.
After watching this show, I just want to go to Paris, go glammed out to parties, and eat fresh croissants from the local bakery. Well, a girl can dream right?
Anyway, if you haven’t watched Emily in Paris yet, then what are you waiting for? Paris awaits!
Goodbye, or as they’d say in Paris, “Au revoir!”
