As you enter the gym, you can sense the energy radiating off the adoring crowd towards the seniors. Before the last home game of the season, there’s a tradition to honor the seniors on a team before the last time they play on their home turf.

On January 27, the Boys Varsity Basketball team played one last time in the Lion’s Den for the 2021-22 season.

Athletic Director Nick Fernandez honored the seniors 15 minutes before the game and before warm ups.

Although the Royal Lions didn’t exactly secure a win, they still put up a good fight for their last home game with a final score of 58-80.

When asked about what he’ll miss the most about the team, senior Carlos Gomez said, “I’ll probably miss our connection and brotherhood.”

One thing that will always reign true about the teams here is that they’re more than teams; they’re a family.

When asked about how he kept his team motivated, senior and team captain, Delvin Espinosa said, “I motivated my team by organizing a team bonding so we could possibly get closer to each other and bond more.”

This goes to show the tightness of this pack starts from above and trickles down.

Although this was a goodbye on Royal Territory, the boys are still playing away games. Make sure to cheer them on at their tournament at Belen this week.
