Talk about starting off the new year on a high note!

College Board announced that the SAT will be taken online starting in 2023 for international students and beginning in 2024 for U.S. based students. The digital SAT was first tested in November of 2021 and College Board says 80% of students who participated in the test run found it to be less stressful and were able to focus better.

These stress reducing changes include shortening the test to two hours instead of three, shorter reading passages, and allowing the use of calculators on the whole math portion instead of one section.

“We’re not simply putting the current SAT on a digital platform — we’re taking full advantage of what delivering an assessment digitally makes possible,” Priscilla Rodriguez, vice president of College Readiness Assessments at College Board, said in a statement from January 24

“As happy as I am for the underclassmen who will be able to take this new version of the SAT, I’ve got to say I’m a little jealous that they will never have to go through the dread of waking up at 7am on a Saturday to take this 3 hour test,” said senior Elisa Ligero.

This revised test will be available on students’ own devices, school-issued devices, or a laptop or tablet will be provided by the College Board to students who don’t have access to one.

“ I am happy to hear that I will be able to take my SAT online. This makes me feel less stressed out about junior and senior year so

that’s one less thing to worry so much about,” said freshman Keith Grupenhoff.
