The 2022 Oscar Nominees Are Here!

The 2022 Oscar Nominations have been announced!

Melanie Scheel Sikaffy, Feature Editor

It’s time for the Oscars once again, and the nominee list has officially been announced! It can only be described as record and barrier-breaking.

Actor Troy Kotsur was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in CODA, becoming the first deaf man to earn an acting nomination and second deaf acting nominee after co-star Marlee Matlin.

Denzel Washington became the most nominated black actor in history after being nominated for best actor for his performance in The Tragedy of Macbeth, essentially a new spin on the Shakespearean classic. Irrefutably, a big step for the black acting community.

Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for the song “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s Encanto. This may just have opened the door for Miranda to potentially become a member of the elite “EGOT” group, stars who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award.

Ari Webber, the second female cinematographer to be nominated for an Oscar, has her movie The Power of the Dog leading with 12 nominations. Dune has grabbed 10, but overall a wide array of movies were given nods.

That being said, let’s head into the list of nominations for the 2022 Oscar Awards:

This has displayed that the Academy’s voting body has had a change these past few years after tons of criticism from social media; no matter what movie you were rooting for, you are likely coming out with something to be happy about…unless that movie was House of Gucci.

Be sure to catch the 94th Oscars on Sunday, March 27, 2022, televised live on ABC.
