Dr. Shaw with some sand dollars on one of her many ocean adventures.

Not many people seem to know who Dr. Rebecca Shaw is, or how many cool things she does outside of ILS. If they do know her here, it’s because of her role as head of STEAM and as a teacher of marine science honors. However, her love of ocean science has led her to many a cool place, including Las Mujeres, Mexico, where she swam with whale sharks, which happen to be her favorite marine animal. On top of that, Dr. Shaw also lived aboard a research vessel for ten days in the Maldives. Although the expedition was originally for whale sharks, she saw none and ended up focusing on a manta ray feeding station later. Helping out aboard the ship with those amazing, interesting, and enormous creatures is something she counts as “the most amazing experience of [her] life.”
