“I Didn’t Ask For The Rainfall”
After being delayed for almost two years, the tour finally ended. On Saturday, September 17th, Lady Gaga performed her final stop of the Chromatica Ball Stadium Tour in Miami, Florida. Ending in tears, she was forced to cut off the show early due to intense lightning.
The night started like any other normal concert. The excitement built up with the anticipation of what she would bring on stage. Getting into the venue, Hard Rock Stadium, fans are surrounded with over 65,000 people;e. All of the excitement of the night quickly turned into a threatening, disappointment.
While performing her award-winning song “Shallow,” she announced that her team had said to her that there was lightning 20 minutes away. Giving it no thought, she continued to perform. After a few minutes, she proceeded to run off stage with her microphone following no explanation. When she ran off stage, all the screens warned about the weather saying, “Inclement weather approaching, that includes lightning, seek shelter inside the stadium concourse levels.”
Everyone seated at the floor level was escorted out to the shelter, while everyone seating on the levels above stayed in their seats.
After about an hour and a half later, they officially led everyone seated on the floor back to their seats. Still raining, the crew attempted their hardest to be able to keep performing. Waiting about another hour with rain getting everyone soaked, Gaga proceeded to get on stage and deliver a tearful speech.
“I know I would do anything but, I’m too worried about this ok. I love you and when I wrote those lyrics when I said ‘I’d rather be dry, but at least I’m alive it’s because I care about life now in a way that I didn’t for a long time. I’m sorry that we can’t finish but I don’t want to put your life in danger and I don’t want to put our life in danger, so thank you, get home safely, God bless you, and thank you for coming to our show.” she said.
After fans evacuated the stadium, Gaga posted a tearful video on her Instagram page.
“Hi everybody! Thank you so much for coming to the Chromatic Ball. We tried to finish the show tonight in Miami, but we couldn’t because even when the rain sort of stopped, there was lightning that was striking right down to the ground so close to us,” she said.
“I know for a lot of time I wanted to be that hardcore person, but what I also want to be is responsible and loving and I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to anybody in the audience or any member of my crew, my band, my dancers, so I’m sorry that we couldn’t do that epic performance of “Rain On Me” in the rain but what’s more worth it to me is life. It took so much in my heart to get back to a place where I could perform and be healthy and I hope you know that part of why I decided to finish this show was because I am healthy and it is a healthy decision for all of you and myself as well. I love you.”
Although everyone was frustrated because they spent a great amount of money and didn’t get a refund, the performance level was still spectacular. With less than half the setlist to perform, the night ended.
