Hocus Pocus is one of the greatest Halloween movies of all time. Bringing everyone immense nostalgia, it’s sequel has recently been released, leading many to express controversial opinions about it.

Sanderson Sisters

The new movie, Hocus Pocus 2 has 2.9 stars out of 5. Compared to the original movie (4.5 stars), it’s a relatively poor rating.

In the film, The Sanderson sisters are released once more on Halloween in the eagerly awaited Hocus Pocus 2, which first emerged in some theaters September 30. However, this time, two girls infatuated with magic, Becca (Whitney Peak) and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo), are the ones who release them. Winifred, Sarah, and Mary all conjure the town of Salem in true Sanderson Sisters’ form with musical performances and magic in abundance soon after regaining their powers.

The follow-up maintained its independence while remaining true to its initial foundation. There was no terrible finale that destroys the charm of the original or a hurried plot that leaves the movie feeling unfinished. In that sense, Hocus Pocus 2 proved to be the ideal sequel to a beloved Halloween film.

The movie was really carried by its nostalgia. Finding performers with the chemistry like the three witches do requires a really unusual talent. It was clear in the first movie, and now 30  years later, it seems like nothing has changed. The movie was entertaining to watch because of the chemistry among the characters, reminding the audience of the three original witches.

Overall, I disagree with all the negative feedback and reviews about this movies just because it’s not exactly as “iconic” as the original 1993 Hocus Pocus. The sequel brings waves of nostalgia and has very entertaining elements like musical portions, and most importantly, the  chemistry among the performers. The main problem in connecting with the critics is that the film’s script is too cheesy. Still, if you are looking to reconnect with a childhood favorite, Hocus Pocus 2 is worth a watch.
