From Winter Wonderland to the Florida Sunshine: Paloma Rosania

Paloma Rosania, a sophomore transfer, moved to Miami in July from Michigan where she had been attending another Catholicschool. Born and raised in Michigan, to Colombian parents, most of her family moved to Miami during COVID-19, the main reason for the change.

At the beginning of the school year, Rosania attended Coral Gables Senior High School, as it was a time filler until she got accepted into ILS, which was the school her parents had wished for her to attend from the start.

At Gables, Rosania was a part of the International Baccalaureate Program (IB). Throughout her stay, she found it hard to adjust to Gables.

“The teachers here at ILS have a really close connection with the students, like teachers here make sure to be included in a student’s life and actually want to help them, as in public school your lucky even if a teacher can remember your name,” she explained.

As it is her first time moving, she has found it hard to adapt to certain environments. For one she is currently living at her family vacation house, making her constantly wonder if any of this is real, or if she’s just on a simple family vacation.

“I was very homesick, mostly because I had to get out of my routine,” she explained.

Her adaptation, nonetheless, has seemed to be going a lot smoother than she had expected. Since ILS is a school full of very open and talkative individuals with with open minds when meeting new people, she is finding the change a positive one.

“The students here are always very inclusive and united altogether,” she said.

Rosania is excited to take part in the Cross Country team this upcoming fall, even if she was previously a lacrosse player at her former school.
