With traveling season upon us what are some essentials you should pack?

Alina Figueroa, Writer

Traveling season is coming soon and that means packing.

Packing is one of the most important parts of a trip. And if you are like me, you over pack and under pack, meaning that you pack the unnecessary objects while forgetting to pack the most important.

TIPS FOR TRAVEL
• Arrive at least two (domestic) to three (international) hours at the airport before the plane departs so you  don’t miss your flight
• Keep personal belongings close to you to prevent them from getting lost or stolen.
• Charge your devices before boarding.
• Have enough cash just in case electronic payments are unavailable.
• Make copies of important documents such as passport or driver’s license.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Buy travel insurance.
• If you apply for Global Entry, going through security is faster.

“Something that I really recommend people to get is the Global Entry for international flights. It saves you a huge amount of time from the long, exasperating immigration line after a long flight,” said junior Umi Noritake.

NECESSARY ITEMS FOR TRAVEL
• Passport or ID
• Boarding pass
• Credit card or cash
• Cellphone

ESSENTIALS FOR CARRY-ON
• Book
• Travel journal
• Chargers (multiple)
• Headphones (wire and wireless)
• Adaptor (international travel)
• Gum (chew to minimize the cabin pressure felt in your inner ear)
• Snacks
• Moisturizer
• Chapstick
• Hand sanitizer wipes and gel
• Sunglasses and/or reading glasses
• Camera
*Don’t pack any sharp objects or bring any liquid which is more than 4 oz.

“Something that I love and recommend people to take for long flights is a neck pillow. They are very useful and allow you to sleep comfortably,” said sophomore Olivia Oguz.

PACKING ADVICE

• Check the weather before to know what clothes to pack.
• Include comfortable shoes if you are going to be walking long distances (two pair)
• Find out if there are dress requirements for your destination.
• Bring plenty of undergarments.
• Pack various pairs of socks.
• Add at least one dressier or more formal outfit.
• Don’t forget a jacket or sweater.
• Dress comfortably for the travel portion of your trip.
• Remember to have daytime clothes.
• Essentials may include medication, toiletries, or makeup.
• Add one pair of pajamas.
• Sunscreen is always a must.

I love taking makeup wipes and a mist to freshen up. I also like to take Benetint, Aquaphor and mascara to feel more put together.

It is important to remember to just pack what is necessary, not all the wants. Also, keep in mind that when you travel, you might shop so save some extra space in your bag.
