This past Saturday, September 9th, the Miami Hurricanes beat the Texas A&M Aggies 48-33 at Hard Rock Stadium, securing the team’s first win against a Southeastern Conference team in 10 years. The Hurricanes were lead by quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who passed for 374 yards and achieved five touchdowns, this being the first time Van Dyke scores five touchdowns in one game in his career. The Aggies were lead by quarterback Conner Weigman who passed for 336 yards and achieved two touchdowns. UM Safety Kamren Kinchens, during the fourth quarter with only 1:58 minutes remaining, seemed to collapse on the field after attempting to tackle Aggies’ receiver Ainlas Smith and receiving a scary hit in the process. The medical staff quickly rushed in and placed him onto a stretcher, and he was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He has since been released and is now fortunately in good, stable condition.
“When I saw Kamren Kinchens collapse, I got really scared. I’m glad he’s okay now,” said sophomore Marc Lee.
Despite this setback, Miami kept fighting. With 6:28 left in the game, kicker Andy Borregales helped finalize the win by scoring a 50-yard field goal. Texas A&M scored again after that, but Van Dyke made a 64-yard throw that landed in receiver Jacolby Georges’ arms who was then able to get the final score for the University of Miami.
“It was a good game. To me Tyler Van Dyke stood out the most,” said freshman Lucas Rodriguez.
“As someone who wants to potentially go to UM next year for college, I’m excited to see their football team win because I want my school to succeed,” said senior Sebastian Debora.
This win places the Miami Hurricanes at 4th in the Atlantic coast. Only time will tell how far the Canes go from here.
