Last Tuesday, the ILS varsity girls soccer team defeated nearby rival Ransom Everglades by a score of 1-0.

It was a masterful defensive effort by the Lady Royal Lions in this one. The ILS defense did not allow a single shot on goal, according to MaxPrep’s stats. Sophomore goalkeeper Ariana Paredes was credited with the win and the shutout. It was her second shutout of the season, after blanking MAST Academy on 11/14. Paredes has stopped eight shots this season.

Senior Valentina Pafumi netted the game’s only goal in the first half. Pafumi now has three goals on the season. Sophomore Hanah Gonzalez assisted on Pafumi’s goal. It was her first assist of the season.

Senior Sofia Concepcion was selected as the MaxPrep’s player of the game, thanks to her stellar defensive effort. The team’s defenders did a great job of keeping the ball as far away as possible from our goal. Controlling and passing the ball has only improved from the mid-fielders this season.

When the girls Varsity Coach Vuono was asked how they prepared for this game he said, “We did a lot of team bonding and being thankful for each other and the sisterhood that comes with being a part of this program.”

Head coach Anthony Vuono has been pleased with the recent efforts from the team and he knows the team is poised for something great.

“Everyone’s matured and now it’s their turn to move up and people having the chance to play their God-given talents.”

As shown on the field, the Lady Royals are a very family-oriented team. The girls incorporate religion by going to team mass every Tuesday morning.

If the girls keep playing with the great amount of teamwork they have already shown, they are bound to win more and more games.

The Lady Royals are currently ranked No. 9 in the State of Florida’s Class 3A. The only other local school in the 3A top-10 is Palmer Trinity (No. 3; 7-0).

With the win, ILS advances its record to 4-1 on the campaign. The Royal Lions host Archbishop MacCarthy (4-0) to play the Mavericks in a non-league outing on Tuesday, December 3.
