On Friday December 13th, the ILS boys varsity soccer hosted Belen Jesuit (5-2-3) in a non-conference game.

The ILS defense shut out the impressive Belen offense. Led by senior defender Miguel Valle and sophomore defender Nikolas Salge, the Royal Lions stopped 6 Belen corner kicks and kept them from scoring at all.

In addition, senior midfielders Marcelo Aedo and Mateo Munizaga contributed to the powerful defense.

Freshman goalkeeper River Blake was impressive his high school debut, earning a shutout with two saves, in addition to being named ‘MaxPreps Player Of The Game’.

Belen (5-2-3) had only been held to 0 points once so far in their 10 games coming into last Friday’s game.

Despite the solid defense, the ILS offense continues to struggle to put points up on the board. Despite numerous opportunities, the Royal Lions were unable to score.

ILS has only scored five goals in six games played this season, something unfamiliar to the soccer program.

Following the 0-0 tie, the Royal Lions sit with a record of 2 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties. Their next home game is on January 10th, against Key West (4-2-2).
