Girls Basketball Tops Pinecrest Glades, 37-19

Sophomore Cassie Martinez de Castro has been the leading scorer this year for the Lady Royal Lions basketball team.

The ILS girls varsity basketball team continued its winning ways of late with a 37-19 victory over Pinecrest Glades Academy.

The Lady Royal Lions took control early in this one and played solid defense throughout to earn the win. This early season test helped demonstrate how the team is coming together, learning and growing as a unit.

Sophomore Cassie Martinez de Castro lead the team in scoring with 12 points. She’s been the most consistent scorer for the Lady Royal Lions this season and has certainly stepped up her game in her second year with the program. Martinez de Castro also led the team in rebounding with 11 boards. Her effort and energy continue to be productive for the team.

Junior Camila Corvalan’s steady play as the team’s point guard led ILS to another victory. Corvalan is taking over primary ball-handling responsibilities this season and has responded well. She finished with a team-high four assists on the night. Her defense continues to be solid, as she swiped five steals from the Dragons. Corvalan also contributed five points.

Junior Laura Hernandez has played a solid, all-around game this season. She’s a do-it-all type of player and that’s shown in her stat line versus Pinecrest Glades: six points, seven rebounds, two assists and on block.

Freshman Cary Scheuerle is emerging as a steady contributor for the Lady Royal Lions as well. Scheuerle chipped in with two points, six rebounds and three steals.

The Lady Royal Lions now sport a 4-6 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Hebrew Academy (7-2) for a non-league battle on Monday, December 16. ILS will battle a Warriors team coming off a 40-18 non-league win over Boca Raton Christian.
