Hello, ILS!
Volleyball: ILS varsity volley is on a three-game winning streak after taking down both their opponents this week. First, they defeated Mater Brickell in 4 sets (25-12, 20-25, 25-12, 25-22). Helen Montilla had 2Aces, 12Kills and 1Dig while Sofia Dean had 4Aces, 12 Assists, and 9 Digs.
They also picked up a victory over Don Soffer in straight sets (25-18, 25-9, 25-10). Leading the way in this match was Sara Moreno 9Kills and 2 Digs, Lara Potente with 3kills and 5 Digs. Sunshine Garcia added 4Aces and 3Digs while Heleen Montilla had 7Kills, 2Bloks, and 1Assist.
Golf: The Royal Lions boys golf team dropped the season opener to Florida Christian. The Royals were led by senior Jeremy Agresti who shot a team low 49. Next week the lady Royals open with Lourdes and Carrollton followed by a boys and girls match with Don Soffer.
Cross Country: The Royals Cross Country team travelled up to Boca this past weekend for the Park Vista Cobra Invitational. The runners competed well against strong competition. The girls were led once again by Andrea Echeverria who posted a season best 23:56 5k time. The boys were led by freshman Felipe Garcia-Correa who posted a personal best 20:04 5k time.
Both teams will be back in action at the King of the Hill invitational at Tropical Park September 13th.
Football: The Royal Lion football team picked up another key victory against a tough Miami Jackson senior high 20-14, and went on to defeat long-time rival, Belen 34 to O.
For the Miami Jackson game, Quarterback Taylor Trauth got his touchdown throw with receiver Tyrone Williams while Santiago Robles added his touchdown on the ground. Their third touchdown came from Keondre Ponton who returned an interception 65 yards for the touchdown. That’s Pontons third interception of the year. He also added a game leading 10 tackles. Henry Jean-Simeon had 7 tackles while Rashad Lee added 6 tackles.
Girls Volleyball traveled to American Heritage Plantation for a 4:30JV and 6PM varsity matches.
Girls Golf team kicked off their season at the Country club of Miami west course against Lourdes and Carrolton.
The Swim team kicked off their season at Gulliver with Riviera Prep as well. 3PM warm up 4pm start time.
The Golf team traveled to Miami Shores for a 3:30 match with Don Soffer.
Girls’ Varsity volleyball traveled to Tampa for the Florida Gem High school invitational. They ended up in a pool with Palatka High school, Labelle and Manatee High. The tournament started Friday morning and continued through Saturday.
