Greetings, ILS Sports Fans!

Here is your weekly round up.

Golf:

The boys team shot their lowest score of the season with a 170 vs MAST. Jeremy Agresti and Connor Heilemann led the way each shooting a season best 40. Julien Bannel shot a 44 and Hector Pires finished with a 46. The boys ended their season with a winning record of 5 wins 4 loses. Congrats to all our seniors on a great year.

The girls were led again by senior Gianna Cusano who shot a 47.

The golf team goes to Normandy Shores on Monday for the District finals tournament.

Football: ILS 33 – Mater Academy 9

The Football team took on Mater Academy in a battle of 2 halves. Joel Salien got the scoring started with a 37 yd touchdown reception from Taylor Trauth. However, Mater did all they could to give the Royals a game. Their unorthodox offense, which consisted mainly of quarterback runs, saw them control the tempo of the game. This prevented the Royals from getting their offense going. Mater took a 9-8 lead into the half.

In the 2nd half we got the show rolling. The Royals outscored their opponent 25-0. This team is filled with playmakers, and they took turns executing huge touchdown plays. Dorian Mallary stepped in at QB and threw a slant to Terrance Smith Jr who took it in for a 19 yd touchdown. On the next drive Mallary rolled to his right and threw a 22 yd strike to Alan Schael in the endzone that put the Royals up 21-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter Terrance Smith Jr. stepped in at running back and took a handoff 60 yds for a touchdown. Big shoutout to the offensive line for battling a tough Mater front 7 all night. Mallary made some huge throws and used his feet to extend the pocket. In the final scoring drive, he extended a play on 3rd down and hit Tyrone Williams for another big gain. This was followed by the final touchdown of the night, a beautifully placed fade to Brandon Kinsey for 25 yds and the touchdown.

The defense held strong all night. When the offense can score so quickly, and your opponent commits to running the ball, you end up playing a lot of snaps. Big shout out to the defensive line and linebackers for holding strong all night. This included a huge goal line stand in the 4th quarter. Mater only threw 2 passes, and 1 of them was intercepted by Keondre Ponton, which brings his season total to 6.

The Royals improved to 7 – 1 and are in a prime playoff spot with only 2 games remining in the regular season.
