Every Halloween, you see the same costumes everywhere. People love going as witches, vampires, superheroes, and don’t forget princesses. While it’s fun to see familiar costumes, some people think Halloween is way more exciting when you get creative and wear something unique.

Why do we see the same costumes every year?

Costumes like witches, skeletons, superheroes, vampires, princesses and more seem to never go out of style. They’re easy to find, and everyone knows what you are without asking.

On the other hand, there are people who are much more unique! Some use smart puns, like a “cereal killer” where they stick mini cereal boxes on their shirt with fake blood. Others dress up as funny or unexpected things, like a Spotify playlist where people can scan the code and listen to the songs.

“I like when people have to figure out my costume, Halloween is about having fun, not just wearing what’s popular,” said junior Gianluca Sperman.

What is one of the best things about unique costumes?

They’re usually cheap! While a superhero outfit from the store could cost $50, unique DIY costumes can be made from stuff around your house or a trip to the thrift store.

“I’m going as a classic zombie this year. It’s nothing special, but it’s easy to put together, and it’s Halloween, so it works,” said junior Simon Munera.

Social media also has a huge impact on Halloween costumes. If a celebrity wears a certain costume, tons of people want to recreate  it. But some feel that social media has made costumes kind of repetitive. Once everyone’s posted their Joker or prisoner look, it starts to feel like the creativity is gone.

No matter which costume type you go for, Halloween is all about having fun. Whether you’re dressing up as something super popular or putting together a totally unique look, both choices are great in their own ways. Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without a little bit of everything.
