Mr. Donald J. Trump was sworn in for his second, non-consecutive term as President of the United States. The inauguration taking place on January 20th, 2025, initially set to be outdoors in front of the U.S Capital, was relocated indoors because of unexpected cold weather. Alongside President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, took the oath as vice president, marking a monumental moment in U.S politics. Thousands of excited supporters cheered and gathered across Washington D.C to witness this event.
When asked if they watched the inauguration,
In his inaugural address, the incoming president outlined his vision for his second term, largely emphasizing economic growth, restoring America’s relationship with the countries around us, and future-proofing the dollar. Among the many controversial things he said was his desire to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. This order has definitely stirred up enough controversy, but Florida wasted no time adopting the name, as it was used in a State of Emergency declaration by Governor Ron DeSantis.
“My family and I are really excited to see what Trump will do for the country. I think his decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico is a bit random, but I see the standpoint he is coming from,” shared Sophomore Camila Echeverri.
Right after the inauguration, President Trump began signing executive orders such as those on federal employees, birthright citizenship, and gender identity. He also stated part of his speech, that he will act with “historic speed and strength” to fix any crisis that the country is currently facing. If Mr. Trump follows through with his plans, they will undo most of what the President Biden’s administration had originally put in place.
“I hope that he betters the country in many ways and that he is able to help fix any problems America is currently facing,” stated sophomore Ashley Gomez.
