Every year, students, teachers, and staff at ILS come together to celebrate the life of St. John Bosco, also known as Don Bosco. He was the founder of the Salesians, a group of religious who dedicate their lives to helping young people through education and care. This special day gives everyone a chance to think about the important values Don Bosco taught, like love, kindness, and the power of education.
“My favorite part about Don Bosco Day is that we get to celebrate it with each other,” shared sophomore Gaby Punzo.
Don Bosco was born in 1815 in Italy. As a young man, he saw how many poor boys had no chance for a good education, so he decided to help them. He believed education was the key to changing lives and giving them hope for a better future. His hard work led to the creation of the Salesian Order, a group that now has schools and programs in many countries to help young people.
At ILS, the celebration starts with a Mass and prayer, where everyone comes together to honor Don Bosco’s teachings. Students also take part in fun activities like games, arts projects, and group work that reflect Don Bosco’s values of love, hard work, and kindness. The day is filled with laughter and fun, but also a deeper appreciation for the way Don Bosco cared for and helped others.
“My favorite part about Don Bosco Day is all the activities we have,” said sophomore Martina Welch.
The school also focuses on the Salesian tradition of being friends and guides to students, just like Don Bosco was. Teachers and staff always do their best to support and guide students in a caring and respectful way, following his example. They help students grow in faith, character, and knowledge.
This special day reminds everyone of Don Bosco’s incredible contributions. It also shows how his mission is still alive today. By celebrating him, ILS continues to give all students the chance to grow, learn, and succeed. It’s a day that brings the whole school together, celebrating community, education, and love.
