Catholic Schools’ Week is an annual celebration of community and faith during which students participate in various themed activities such as the pep rally, Don Bosco Day, the students vs teachers basketball game, and special dress down days all throughout the week.
“For Catholic Schools’ Week, I am expecting a cheerful week of high spirits,” said Mr. Micheal Carey of the Math Department.
Each day focuses on different aspects including national pride, honoring teachers and staff, and celebrating students. The week emphasizes the values that all Catholic schools’ hold, while fostering a spirit of unity within the school community.
Monday
Monday of Catholic Schools’ Week is all about celebrating community. Students show their spirit through ILS Spirit Day, culminating with a lively pep rally. Additionally, students showcases spirit by participating in the Teachers vs Students’ Basketball game.
Tuesday
Tuesday is all about faith, where students are encouraged to wear their faith such as the Don Bosco Day shirts, retreat merchandise, and even the ADMA club sweatshirt.
“I am excited for the Special Olympics and the little kids who come because it gives them a chance to share their happiness with us,” said Main Office Receptionist Mrs. Marielena Douaihi.
Wednesday
Wednesday is a day to honor veterans and show patriotism. Students write letters to veterans to express gratitude for their service and wear red, white, blue and to show support for the nation. It’s a meaningful way to connect with the values of service and community.
Thursday
Thursday is all about teachers and staff. Students get the chance to dress up as their favorite teacher, as a playfyl way to acknowledge them. It is also a fun way to celebrate the important role teachers play in the school community.
“I am most excited for seeing all the great work and the faith within the Catholic school system,” said Coach Brent Webber of the Athletics Department.
Friday
Finally, today, Friday is Don Bosco Day, a special celebration of the school’s patron saint, St. John Bosco. Students enjoy a unique schedule filled with diverting activities to honor his legacy and the values he stood for like, faith, education, and service, and beginning with Mass. It’s an engaging and meaningful way to end Catholic Schools’ Week.
