Have you ever wondered how news gets made? If you love writing, taking photos, or just want to learn how to tell stories that matter, the Journalism Class is for you.
Why Journalism?
Journalism isn’t just about writing articles; it’s about sharing important stories with the world. It’s about asking questions, finding answers, and helping people stay informed. Whether you want to write for a newspaper, create videos, or work online, journalism is a skill that opens doors to many careers.
“It helps you refine your writing skills, meet new people because of the opportunities given to you in interviews, and allows you to explore topics you care about. Also, as a class, it is relaxing and stress free, with little homework and lots of down time,” shared senior Valentina Lanza.
Writing & Reporting: Learn how to write clear, interesting stories that people will want to read. You’ll practice interviewing, gathering information, and turning facts into engaging articles.
Media Ethics: Understand the rules and responsibilities journalists have to follow when reporting the news. It’s about fairness, accuracy, and telling the truth.
Multimedia Skills: Today’s journalists use photos, videos, and social media to tell their stories. You’ll get the experience to do the same by learning how to write for all mediums through the journalism class.
Interviewing: Master asking the right questions and getting the best answers from people. Interviews are a key part of any story.
“Journalism has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and learn to reach out to others around me. Taking journalism and being a part of the Royal Courier not only has allowed me to refine and perfect my writing skills but also to gain valuable experience needed for the real world. I have also received many accolades from participating in journalism. For example, I earned FSPA (Florida Scholastic Press Association) awards for my articles, worked towards becoming Co-Editor-in-Chief, and have become marketing director of the journalism honor society. All of this has contributed immensely to my college applications, and I would recommend anyone who has the passion and work ethic needed, to take journalism as their elective next year,” said senior Alexandra Perez.
In this class, you’ll do more than just learn how to write. You’ll have the chance to write for the school newspaper, and learn about the interesting stories that happen on campus. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to start your own journalism journey.
“I’m very interested in taking the journalism class. I think it will make my writing improve,” shared sophomore Gabriela Punzo.
