Cheerleading: The ILS Cheerleading team had their State Championship competition this weekend. The amazing lady royals’ placed State Runner-up in the Large Non-tumbling division!!! We are extremely proud of the team placing Runner-up, which is a huge accomplishment in a tough division. Congrats to all the athletes and coaches on a great FHSAA season. They still get a chance at UCA Nationals this weekend before the season concludes.
Girls Soccer: Lady Royals competed in their district tournament this week. The won their District Semifinal vs Somerset Silver Palms 6-0. Top performers: Alessandra Alvarez 2 goals. Valentina Mangles, Chiara Gutierrez, Javiera Escobar, Daniella Priscal: 1 goal each. Olivia Rodriguez-Salum: 12th shutoutThey then had to go into Gulliver Prep for the championship and walked out CHAMPIONS! The Lady Royals defeated Gulliver 5-4 in penalty kicks to win another district title! The Royals went down 1-0 in the 1st half. In the 2nd half Camila Andreu tied the score up off a perfect pass from Valentina Mangles to tie the score at 1-1. OT saw the defensive battle continue. In the penalty shootout the Raiders went 1st. Royals Freshman GK Olivia Rodríguez-Salum saved the 2nd and 6th Raider penalty kicks. The Royals penalty scorers (in order): Valentina Mangles, Arantxa Santacana, Daniella Priscal, Senna Trafton, and the game winner from Sarah Torales.CONGRATS to the District Champions Girls Varsity Soccer. Girls advance to the regional tournament and will face Coral Springs Charter February 11th.Girls Basketball: Lady Royals basketball closed out their season this week. Although they lost to Gulliver 54-45 special recognition goes to Alexandra Gonzalez Casar who posted 20 points 16 rebounds and Candy Cruz who posted 13 points 10 rebounds. ILS did defeat Don Soffer 54-10 Alexandra Gonzalez Casar finished with 15 points 11 rebounds. Ainoa Haliwa with 11 points and Candy Cruz with 11 points. They also picked up a win agaisnt Divine Savior 55-27 Alexandra Gonzalez finishes with 15 points 12 rebounds for her 18th double double of the regular season. Peilin Aguilar-Hou finishes with 12 points 7 assists in her final regular season game. Ainoa Haliwa finished with 14 points.Their record moves to 16-4 to close out their season and look to keep that momentum into the district tournament.Boys’ Soccer: Boys Soccer team lost in OT vs Gulliver Prep stopping them from winning their 4th district title in a row. It was a hard-fought match that ended 0-0 regulation. The Royals scored first in extra time (Francisco Walker). The Raiders came back with 5 minutes left in the match to score 2 goals for the win. The boys still had a great season and will advance to the Regional Tournament vs SLAM February 11th location is TBD.Boys’ Basketball: Boys Junior Varsity went 1-1 in their final week of regular season. Finishing 12-4 this season. They lost a competitive game to Gulliver on Monday. Keondre Ponton had 9 points, while Lucas Rivera contributed 8 points. They defeated Dons Soffer 59-35 in an exciting game. Lucas Rivera had 17 points, Jude Brien and Trace Wyche both added 11 points Congrats to boys Junior Varsity on a great yearBoys’ Varsity lost two tough games this week to Gulliver and Don Soffer. In a tough match up versus Gulliver, Alfredo Cancelo led the team in scoring with 13 points The boys fought hard versus Don Soffer but lost in the end. They competed on Biscayne Bay for the third ranking division regatta of the Season. The regatta was hosted by Ransom Everglades School and was raced in 420 sailboats – a two-person sailboat requiring skipper and crew. ILS Sailing fielded both a Varsity team and Junior Varsity team – Skipper Keith Grupenhoff (’25) was joined by Crew Soleil Aurignac (’25) and finished 3rd in A division with a total of 30 points over the six races. B Division had Isabella Henrich (’26) and Beck Brill (’27) sharing skippering duties while Crew Nathalie Caudron (25’) and Lucia Martinez-Moure (’25), finishing in 3rd as well with 24 points. The combined score resulted in third place for the regatta, a very good finish.The Junior Varsity team of Leonardo Terzani (’27) skippering A with crew Diego de Teran (’28), and Marina Wardlaw (’27) skippering B with crew Gabi Mascarenhas (’28). They finished second overall with a combined score of 32 points for the 12 races.The sailors had a nice showing of friends and fans who brought by some gifts to recognize the seniors at their last local regatta!
