Good afternoon ILS ,
Happy Superbowl Sunday! Here’s your Sunday sports report and upcoming sports schedule.
Girls Basketball: The teams season came to an unfortunate end after a historic regular season. The team went for an astounding regular season record of 17 wins and 4 losses. Just so happens that the best 2 teams in the region are both in their district, which ultimately was the deciding factor in the district tournament. Thank you to the seniors and coaches for a great season.
Boys Basketball: The boys season also came to an end last week. They won their close quarterfinal match but fell in the semifinal round to a tough SLAM team. The boys continue to improve each year and are excited about the returning players and future. Thank you to the seniors and coaches for a fun and great season.
Cheerleading: The ILS Cheer squad finds out this evening if they made the finals. Once we have results from Nationals, we will send that out.
Tennis: This past week marked the start of the ILS tennis season, kicking serving off with a district match against Coral Shores. As the first game of the season, it was a great opportunity for players—especially those new to the team—to shake off their nerves against a strong opponent. Both teams emerged victorious with dominant 6–1 wins.
The boys’ team secured wins from Vigo Anduix (8–6) at the No. 2 spot, Nicolo Daulong (8–3) at No. 3, Joseph Saade (8–2) at No. 4, and an incredible debut from Juan Colimodio, who claimed an 8–1 victory at No. 5. In doubles, the No. 1 team of Simon Munera and Vigo Anduix won 6–4, while Nicolo Daulong and Joseph Saade secured a 6–3 victory at No. 2. The boys’ next match is on Tuesday at Crandon against Don Soffer.
The girls’ team swept the singles matches 5–0 with a very promising performance from all players. Sabrina Casareale (8–1) dominated at No. 1, followed by Gaby Punzo (8–2) at No. 2. Seniors Juliana Hawley and Agatha Morrison both earned flawless 8–0 bagels at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while Samantha Spetko claimed an 8–1 victory in her ILS debut at No. 5. In doubles, the No. 2 pairing of Juliana Hawley and Agatha Morrison secured the team’s sixth win with a 6–1 result. The girls continue their season on Monday against district opponent St. Brendan, followed by a matchup against Don Soffer on Tuesday alongside the boys’ team.
Baseball: The ILS Varsity Baseball team defeated iMater Charter School in a Pre-Season match up this past Friday by a final score of 12-2. The strong offensive performance totaled 12 runs on 11 hits and was led by Junior Brandon Nuñez (2-3 HR 3R 1 RBI) who hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the 1st inning to get the Royals on the board first. Senior Derick Paz (5.0 innings CG 6Ks 0ER) hurled his 1st complete game of the season on the mound allowing zero earned runs through 5 innings while striking out 6. Other Top performers: Jonny Quintana went 2-4 with 2B 2 RBIs. Jason Amor went 2-2 with 2R BB. Jesus Cruz Jr went 2-3 with an RBI. Massimo Ron went 1-1 with 2B 3 RBI BB HBP.
