Hope everyone had a nice President’s Day weekend. Here’s your weekly Sports Flash and upcoming sports schedule.Soccer: Boys & Girls Soccer teams season ended in the Regional Quarterfinal round. Unfortunate end to a great season. It was highlighted by both teams making it to the district championship game. Girls won in Penalty kicks while the boys lost in Overtime. We’re very proud of both teams and coaches. The future is bright for both programs.Baseball: The ILS Varsity Baseball team opened their 2025 season with a decisive win over Marathon High School by a final score of 10-4. Starting pitcher Brandon Nuñez secured his first win on the mound with an impressive performance while reliever Hector Sosa finished the game off with a strong relief effort. The offense put together 11 total hits and was led by senior Connor Hernandez who went 3-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.Other top offensive performers: Jonny Quintana 2-2 1 RBI 2 HBP; Hector Sosa 2-3 2RBI 2 BB; Jeremy Fornos 2-5 RBI 2 SBJV Baseball: had 2 games this weekend. They split both games dropping the first and winning the second.Game 1 they lost 5-8.Team Batting Totals• Hits: 8• Walks: 5• Strikeouts: 6• Key Hits: Jesus Cruz (2-RBI double), Alex Caneiro (2-RBI double)Game 2 was a win (9-3).Pitching Summary: Evan Myrtil pitched a complete 5-inning game, allowing only 3 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 7 batters. He showcased a dominant outing, effectively keeping hitters off balance with his nasty curveball, which played a key role in his success on the mound.Key Hits: Jesus Cruz 2-RBI single. Gianni Farrach RBI – DoubleTennis: ILS Girls tennis team picked up a solid win against St. Brendan 5-2 this week. They also picked up another great win against a tough Don Soffer 5-2. The boys weren’t as lucky this week in their match against Don Soffer. They ended up dropping the match 2-5 against the Barracudas.Softball: Softball team opened its preseason this past week at their Braddock Senior high. The team was excited to get back out on the field to prepare for a fun season as defending District Champions.Track: The Royal Lion track team stepped up to the challenge at the Louie Bing Invitational, competing against the top talent from Dade and Broward County. Leading the way were senior Dorian Mallary, sophomore Krystal Inhoof, and senior Candy Cruz, all of whom secured top three finishes in their respective events.Mallary delivered a standout performance, setting a new school record in the 400m with an impressive time of 48.37, earning him the title of 2025 Boys 400m Champion. Inhoof had a remarkable day, not only achieving a personal best in the long jump but also breaking her own school record in the triple jump with a winning mark of 38 feet, making her the Girls Triple Jump Champion. Cruz excelled in the field events, securing second place in the javelin against a competitive field of 35 athletes.It was a strong showing all around for the Royal Lions, with many athletes achieving new personal bests. The team looks to carry this momentum into next Friday’sSpartan Invitational at South Ridge High School, kicking off at 9:30 AM.Sports Schedule:Tuesday, February 18, 2025: Baseball team travels to Gibson Park for a 3:30PMfirst pitch vs SLAM.
