Hello, Royals!Beach VB: Beach Volleyball team kicked off its season this week. They went 1-1 with some great competition. They first dropped the season opener against Westminster Christian but had a great bounce back win against Coral Gables 3-2.Softball: The softball team split two games this week with a win over Miami Springs Senior High, the same team they beat last year to win the District Championship, by a score of 20 to 5 (in three innings)! Highlights were in freshman Emma Arce who pitched fabulously to earn her first high school win! Senior, Maria Romagnoli hat two key hits and three RBIs to lead the team offensively!Their second game this week was with Miami Country Day where we squared off with a pitcher who is signed to pitch for TCC, with hopes to pitch for FSU. She was throwing heat, but we were able to get to her early with two runs. Emma Arce held their team to a mere two hits through 6 innings. Unfortunately, they were able to slip ahead of us at the end of the “nail biter” contest. Our girls fought hard behind the incredible hitting by freshman Khloe Concepcion.Tennis: This past week the ILS tennis team hosted two matches; on Tuesday they hosted Divine Savior which was a close affair on both sides. The boys were able to come away with a great win 4-3, with wins from our number 2, Alvaro Castro 8-2, our number 4, Nicolo Daulong 8-6 and wins at both doubles 1 (Simon Munera and Alvaro Casto) and doubles 2 (Vigo Anduix and Patrico Ureta) with a 6-2 and 6-3 win respectively. The girls team put up a solid fight but unfortunately lost 4-3, with 2 players retiring from injuries, a healthy team would have had a great chance of getting a great win. The 3 wins came from our number 3, Juliana Hawley 8-2, our number 5, Samantha Spetko 8-5, and our doubles 2 of Valeria Rojas and Annabella Poleo with a great 6-1 victory. On Thursday the ILS tennis team hosted Miami Country Day for the first time in a few seasons, expecting a tough match, we got what we expected. There was some fantastic tennis being played by several players. Special shoutout to Simon Munera who put up a valiant effect against their number 1. Juan Colimoido, who’s unorthodox style of tennis made life very hard for their number 5 but unfortunately lost a tight match 9-7. On the girl’s side, Juliana Hawley played a great match and had a great shot at winning, even though she believed it was one of her worst matches. Also, Samathan Spetko has shown great improvement this season and that has translated into her match play, which was clear for all those watching. The 7-0 loss on both sides was not a clear representation of the level of competition that was on show.Baseball: The ILS Varsity Baseball team went 2-0 this past week with a big offensive win vs Mater Bay (15-4) and a hard-fought victory vs Gulliver Prep (6-3).Top Performers vs Mater Bay: Jonny Quintana 3-3 2B 2 RBIs; Hector Sosa 2-2 2 RBIs; Brandon Nuñez W 3IP 0ER 4KsTop Performers vs Gulliver Prep: Alex Corzo W 6IP 0ER 9Ks; Jonny Quintana 2-3 2 RBIs; Connor Hernandez 2-3 2B 2 RBIs; Hector Sosa 1-3 2 RBIsThe team now sits at 5-2 overall going into the new week with matchups on:Monday 3/3 @ Posnack 3:30pm; Thursday 3/6 vs Coral Gables 6:30pm @STUJV: JV team went 1-1 this weekend. In the 12-5 victory, starting pitcher Adam Blanco delivered an outstanding performance, limiting the opposition to five runs. Gianni Farrach effectively closed the game, securing our win. Offensively, Evan Brewster excelled with three singles, consistently getting on base. Jeremy Fornos contributed with two base hits, and Alfredo Valle also reached base twice, bolstering our offense. In our second game, despite a 6-2 loss, our pitchers delivered commendable performances. Jayden Guerrero started strong, effectively managing the opposing lineup, and Alfredo Valle provided solid relief, maintaining control throughout his innings. Offensively, we consistently put the ball in play but were unable to convert these opportunities into the runs we anticipated. The team’s overall performance remained robust, reflecting our potential for upcoming gamesTrack: Waiting for all the results to come in.
