Every day, millions of people across the country struggle to put food on the table. Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organization in the U.S., is working hard to change that by providing food to those in need through a vast network of food banks and pantries. But even with their efforts, hunger remains a huge problem.
Feeding America estimates that over 44 million people, including 13 million children, face food insecurity in the U.S. That means many families don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The organization collects food from grocery stores, farmers, and restaurants, then distributes it to local food banks that help communities. They also focus on raising awareness and advocating for policies to fight hunger.
Students at ILS have strong opinions on the issue.
“It’s crazy to think that so many people don’t have enough to eat while others waste so much food, I feel like we should all do more to help,” said junior Alessandra Alvarez.
Many young people are finding ways to support Feeding America’s mission. Some volunteer at food banks, while others organize food drives or donate money.
“I started helping at a food pantry last summer, and it really opened my eyes,” said senior Javiera Escobar. “People with so many different lives come in, and they’re just trying to get by.”
Even small actions can make a difference.
“My family donates canned goods every year, but I didn’t realize how big the problem was until I learned about food insecurity in class,” said sophomore Camila Andreu. “Now, I want to do more.”
Feeding America continues to work toward a future where no one goes hungry, but they need help. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness, everyone has a role to play in fighting hunger. For more information or to get involved, visit:
