When Mercury is in retrograde it means that from the perspective on Earth, the planet moves backwards instead of its usual direction. This is caused by Earth overtaking a slower moving planet or when it is overtaken by a faster moving planet. Regarding astrology, when Mercury is in retrograde it is associated with travel delays, communication mishaps, and technological glitches.
“Mercury being in retrograde has always fascinated me, I think it’s an interesting topic, and I would want to learn more about it in the future,” shared sophomore Maria Nordholz.
While most people dismiss Mercury being in retrograde as superstition, some believe that it really does make an impact on their lives. Things such as travel mixups, missed job interviews, and technological problems are common problems faced during this period. Though it may seem bad, astrologists say that Mercury in retrograde isn’t bad at all. It can be used as period of reflection and serves as a reminder to double check plans.
“I recently was experiencing some weird problems like plans falling through and my phone’s internet was glitching. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I think that it would be cool to think it wasn’t,” said sophomore Sabriella Alfaro.
Whether you see it as a coincidence or believe in superstition, Mercury in retrograde continues to fascinate communities and spark conversation. The next time this event occurs will be August 5th to August 28th, so make sure to watch your schedule.
