On Friday, January 24th, the ILS boys varsity basketball team ended an extended losing streak with a close win over Archbishop Coleman Carroll high school, 53-49.

It was a back-and-forth contest in the Lions’ Den. The Royal Lions ended a six-game losing streak. During the skid, ILS lost close, winnable games. It would seem those experiences earlier in the month helped them get the win in this one.

Junior Emilio Ramirez had another great game offensively leading the Royal Lions with 22 points. Senior Johnny Oliva added nine points.

The ILS boys JV basketball team also defeated Archbishop Coleman Carroll in their game as well. JV won by a score of 59-51.

The team lead was led by freshman Alex Toledo, who scored 13 points. Sophomore Christian Pizzorni added 12 points. Sophomore Chris Perez-Abreu chipped in with 10 points in the game.

Both teams are preparing for a difficult road contest against solid teams in Doral Academy. The Firebirds varsity team is 13-5 and is led by one of the candidates for Florida’s Mr. Basketball in Devin Carter. Carter is the son of former Miami Heat point guard Anthony Carter. He’s averaging 29.2 points-per-game as a senior.
