The 2025 Met Gala was held May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Every year, stars walk the red carpet in creative outfits that match a special theme. This year, the theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” with the exhibit focused on “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
“My favorite Met Gala look was Sabrina Carpenter’s,” shared sophomore Gabriela Punzo.
This theme celebrated the history, beauty, and power of Black fashion. It honored Black designers, tailors, and artists who helped shape the fashion world. Their work often includes sharp tailoring, bold patterns, and strong cultural meaning. The exhibit showed how important Black creativity is in fashion, even when it hasn’t always gotten credit.
“One of my favorite Met Gala looks was Gigi Hadid’s,” shared sophomore Caro Castillo.
Some celebrities wore amazing outfits that showed deep respect for Black culture. They used African fabrics, powerful symbols, and historical styles. These outfits were not only beautiful but also told stories of pride and strength.
However, not everyone followed the theme in a respectful way. A few stars wore outfits that seemed out of place or had no clear connection to Black style. Some people online said these outfits felt lazy or disrespectful, and that they missed the point of the theme. This caused a lot of discussion on social media about who should be invited and how guests should honor meaningful themes.
“I loved Kendall Jenner’s outfit,” said sophomore Martina Welch.
Still, many guests got it right, and the night was filled with powerful fashion moments. Co-chairs like Zendaya and Bad Bunny impressed fans with bold, thoughtful looks. The Met Gala also raised millions of dollars to support fashion education and museum programs.
In the end, the 2025 Met Gala was a night of art, culture, and conversation. It reminded people that fashion isn’t just about clothes, it’s about stories, identity, and respect.
