At just 17-years-old, Lamine Yamal is already making waves in the world of soccer. Playing for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, the Spaniard, who though born in the country is of Guinean and Moroccan ancestry, is being compared to some of the greatest players in history, and for good reason. His talent, skill, and maturity on the field are beyond his years.
Luka Modric, one of the best midfielders in the world, once said about Messi, “Messi is not from this planet.” Watching Yamal play, many are starting to feel the same way. His creativity, quick decisions, and impressive technique show that he has something truly special.
This season, Yamal helped Barcelona win three major trophies: La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. He also played a key role in Spain’s victory at EURO 2024, becoming the youngest player to win a major international tournament and earning the Young Player of the Tournament award.
Yamal has already broken records, including becoming the youngest player to score in El Clásico which is the famous match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. He also set a Champions League record by becoming the youngest player to score and assist in the same game.
What makes Yamal stand out is not just his stats, but his understanding of the game. His vision and ability to read the field have drawn comparisons to Lionel Messi. One coach even said, “What he’s doing — the moves, the ideas, the touch, the feeling — it’s something you can’t teach. It’s natural talent.”
At ILS, many students admire Yamal’s accomplishments.
“Watching Lamine play makes me believe that age doesn’t limit how good you can be. He’s proof that hard work and talent can take you far,” said junior Nicolas Nauta.
Even students who don’t follow soccer closely are impressed.
“I’m not a big soccer fan, but when I watch Lamine play, it’s exciting. You can tell he’s going to be a huge star.,” said junior Emma Angeli.
With such an incredible start to his career, Lamine Yamal is definitely a player to watch, already inspiring young athletes everywhere, showing that with passion and skill, you can achieve greatness — no matter how young you are.
