Now that summer is here, ideas for activities and places to go might be broad. If you don’t want to just go to South Beach, there’s a variety of other beaches and places to spend your time this summer.
Crandon Park
Crandon Park is a lesser known beach in Miami that offers a calmer vibe than the busy beaches in South Beach. Aside from the beach it has a park where you can take a calm walk or have a barbecue. It’s filled with wildlife such as peacocks or a variety of birds that live in the mangroves. If you’re looking for a more soothing experience where you can either go alone or with family, then this is the beach for you.
“I’ve never heard of Crandon Park, but I love going to the beach so I will definitely try to check it out one day,” shared sophomore Maria Nordholz.
Venetian Pool
The Venetian Pool in Coral Gables is a unique and historic spot that was built in 1924. What makes it so unique is that it was built in a former coral rock quarry, the same rock which was mined to build some of the beautiful homes of “the city beautiful,” Coral Gables. The pool is a spring water pool that is surrounded by Mediterranean architecture. It is an amazing place to cool off on a hot day this summer.
“I had heard of the Venetian Pool before but still haven’t gone. I didn’t know that it was originally built from a coral rock quarry, and I think that sounds like a pretty place to take pictures,” said sophomore Camila Echeverri.
The Salty Donut
Originally beginning as a pop up in Wynwood, the Salty Donut has quickly become a beloved spot in Miami. Though many people love it, some people don’t know it. With donuts such as White Chocolate Tres Leches and Original Glazed, it is a great place to get a sweet treat this summer. Plus, it is owned and operated by ILS grads so you will be supporting an alum by spending your money there.
“I’ve had the Salty Donut before and it’s super good. I definitely recommend it if you love sweets,” shared sophomore Sophie Yetming.
