Summer seemed to fly by fast, and now that school has officially started its time to get back on track. A new school year always brings new faces, classes, and even new rules to adjust to. While returning to the routine can be somewhat overwhelming at first, there are many aspects to consider that can make it smoother. Getting organized, keeping a positive mindset, and setting goals for the year being important considerations.
When Junior Maria Nordholz was asked her goals for the year she responded, “I am excited to see what this school year will bring, academically and socially. My main goals are to keep my grades high but also enjoy my time, since it goes by so fast.”
This year the student body at ILS has grown exponentially, with nearly 900 students now attending. With such a large increase in students come many new faces, whether they are transfer students joining your grade or part of the new freshmen class. It is important that to make everyone feel welcome and included in the school community. If you are a returning student, take the time to lend a hand when needed, whether helping finding a class or just offering a friendly smile. The campus is made up of many buildings, and it can be hard to navigate to find the right classroom, so don’t hesitate to help someone who looks lost. A small act of kindness can be a great help to making a new environment feel like home.
Everyone now has new classes to adjust to and new schedules to navigate. Each classroom may also have its own basic rules and expectations set by the teacher which are important to keep them mind. Staying organized can be a big help to settling in smoothly. Try to keep your routine organized and set aside time each day to get your work done. Using scheduling tools on your iPad, such as Egenda, can help you keep track of assignments, deadlines, and tests. Taking small steps to help your year run smoothly in the beginning goes a long way.
“I’m a very organized person in general, but most of all when it comes to my schoolwork. I find that staying organized is the easiest way to succeed in the long run,” said junior Sophie Yetming.
Before you know it, this year will have flown by just as fast as summer, so be sure to find ways to enjoy it along with keeping your studies on track. Remember to make time for both your responsibilities and to make your year memorable.
