Technology is everywhere including schools. Students and teachers use the internet and even AI to help with learning. Not everyone agrees, though, as whether these tools are a positive or negative development.
AI in the Classroom: Helping or Hurting Student Learning?
Senior Sienna Daughton-Weill thinks technology can hurt learning and teaching in the classroom.
“It’s making people more reliant on technology rather than their own studying and the things they actually know. Obviously, They are cheating their own education,” she said.
She thinks students depend too much on AI instead of practicing their own skills.
Senior, Luna Fernandez, agrees.
For Luna, the problem is that learning has become too simple, and students don’t challenge themselves as much as they used to without AI.
Teachers may see things a little differently. Ms. Cristina Ramirez, a journalism teacher says digital learning help students learn more quickly.
“It took me a long time to explain a particular lesson in the past. Digital learning helps my students pick up the information faster,” she said.
While some students stress about losing focus and independence, teachers notice better learning and faster understanding.
The truth can be somewhere in between: technology can help, but students still need to think and do things on their own.
As schools continue to use more technology, the question remains: Are these tools helping students succeed, or are they making learning too easy?
