Roblox, the much loved video game played by over 85.3 million people, has encountered some problematic issues in particular affecting younger players.
Worldwide outrage erupted concerning the banning of famous YouTuber Schlep, known for catching predators on Roblox and working alongside the Arkansas Police Department.
Schlep has been banned from the platform since he would catch predators with authorities instead of contacting Roblox’s Safety Administration. Schlep’s ban has caused many players to protest online and in real life by holding up signs that read “#FreeSchlep.”
Another controversial safety decision made by the leadership at Roblox was to add a dating system on the platform causing many individuals to worry that this may allow predators to more easily take advantage and groom minors.
Many countries have taken the situation into their own hands leading to a Roblox ban in the countries of Qatar, Indonesia, China, Oman, Iran, and North Korea. Many individuals agree with the ban in multiple countries such as senior Luna Fernandez.
States in the US are taking action against Roblox. For instance, Louisiana sued Roblox due to a lack of action regarding children’s safety, and, additionally, Arkansas State Police formally asked that Mr. David Baszuki step down from his position as CEO for the company.
Many famous individuals who make Roblox content have taken action by leaving the Star Program, a program that gives exclusive benefits to famous creators. These individuals include Kreekcraft, Flamingo, Remainings, and many more.
As players speak against the ban, Roblox continues to shut down any games with mentions of Schelp and remove avatar items with any refrence to Schlep proving Roblox has moderation capabilities yet chooses to not use them correctly.
Until Roblox fixes their safety issues, the platform is likely to continue losing support.
