Here’s your Sunday sports report and upcoming sports Schedule.
Volleyball: The teams opened the week strong with decisive wins against IMATER on Monday. JV set the tone early, winning 25–6 and 25–14, followed by Varsity’s dominant performance in straight sets (25–8, 25–10, 25–15).
On Wednesday, both teams continued their momentum against SLAM. JV secured another solid win (25–16, 25–15), and Varsity earned a hard-fought victory (25–17, 25–21, 25–22). A highlight of the week came during this match as Sofia Dean reached her career milestone of 1,000 assists, a major accomplishment and proud moment for the program.
Thursday brought tough competition against True North, where both teams fell short. JV lost 13–25, 15–25, and Varsity battled through three competitive sets but ultimately fell 19–25, 18–25, 15–25.
Over the weekend, the Freshman team competed in a tournament showing strong effort throughout. They lost to Lourdes (16–25, 7–25) and MCD (25–15, 15–25, 7–15), earned two wins against Brito (25–13, 25–10 and 25–20, 25–10), and fell to Somerset Pines (20–25, 8–25).
Golf: This week the boys golf team took part in the Miami Dade County Youth Fair Invitational at Country Club of Miami with nearly every school and over 120 participants competing. Freshman Gilberto Morales finished an impressive 16th overall with a round of 74(4 over par). Freshman Lucio Perez Alonso shot a very solid 77 to finish 30th overall. Sophomore Connor Heilemann shot an 82 to finish 45th overall. An encouraging day of golf from the young Royal Lion boys golf team.
They also played a tri-match vs perennial state power houses Florida Christian and Westminster Christian on tough windy day battling the elements at Crandon Golf course. The boys were again led by freshman Gilberto Morales with a 9-hole round of 43 and senior Francisco Pages who had his lowest round of the season with a 46. Junior Federico Gil and sophomore Connor Heilemann both shot 46 as well.
Next week the golf team hosts Palmer Trinity and then MAST & Ferguson for two matches at Crandon.
Swimming: The swim team competed at St. Brendan for a double dual meet, St. B and Pace. They also competed at Westminster for another double dual with Carrollton.
St Brendan Meet- The Girls did great in the 200-Medley Relay and 200 Free Relays. Our boys also competed in the 200 Free Relay and had a strong finish. Results: Barbara Espinal: 200 IM, and 100 back; KristenBachman100 Fly, and 100 free; Emma Larralde: 50 free, and 100 breast; Sabina Morelli: 50 free, and 100 free while recovering from an injury; Mathias: 200 free, and 50 free; Brandon Pena: 50 free, and 100 free; Martin Peres: 50 free, and 100 free; Christian Coronado: 50 free, and 100 free
Westminster Meet– Following times are unofficial results: Mathias Alvarado: 200 free (2:05), 100 back (1:11.61); Brandon: 50 free (43 sec), 100 free (1:36.16); Martin: 50 free (33.26), 100 free; Kristen: 50 free (27.07), 500 free (6:09.52); Sabina: 50 free, 100 free (1:19.53); Barbara: 100 fly (1:19.19), 100 back (1:19.16); Emma: 100 free, and 100 breast (1:21.06) – The girls competed in the 200 Medley Relay, 2:18.00.
Football: Royals Dominate Panthers in 42–0 Shutout
The Immaculata-La Salle Royals put together a complete team performance Friday night, rolling past Somerset Academy in a 42–0 victory. From start to finish, the Royals controlled the tempo on both sides of the ball, improving their record and showing why they’re one of the most balanced teams in the region.
Quarterback Nate Merrell Jr. led the offensive charge, completing 8 of 10 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns. The receiving corps made the most of every opportunity Torrence Jones hauled in five catches for 68 yards and a score, Jayvion. Robinson added 42 yards and a touchdown, and Adrian Cox caught a 12-yard pass for another trip to the end zone.
On the ground, Adrian Cox powered the run game with 57 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, while Wendell Copeland chipped in 20 yards on limited touches.
Defensively, the Royals were dominant, keeping Somerset’s offense in check and recording their second shutout of the season. The front seven consistently pressured the quarterback, while the secondary locked down any attempts through the air. Rual Alverez led the team with 6 tackles with 2 sacks. Trayton Jones had 4 tackles while Daniel Marin and Ian Desitnobles had 3 tackles. Ian also a touchdown for the defense/special teams.
It was a statement win for the Royals, who will look to carry this momentum into next week’s matchup with Miami Springs and a chance to win the first district title since 1976!
XC: Cross team did not compete this week due to inclement weather.

Friday, October 10, 2025: HOMECOMING Football Game vs Miami Springs 7PM in the Jungle!
Saturday, October 11, 2025: Cross Country team travels to Pine School for a cross-country meet.
