Every year at Immaculata-La Salle High School, students, teachers, and families come together for Giving Tuesday, a day focused on helping the Salesian Sisters who serve at ILS, our parish, and in missions around the world. Even though students are busy with school and activities, many still take time to give what they can. This year the Giving Tuesday program has become an important reminder of how small acts of generosity can make a real difference.
The school encourages everyone to donate to support the Sisters’ work, especially their retreats, education programs, and service projects. Even a few dollars can help keep these programs going. The Salesian Sisters also use these donations to help communities outside of Miami, especially in places where families struggle with basic needs. Many students said they felt proud knowing they were helping people they would probably never meet.
Junior Maximo Biasutto explained why the event matters to him.
“I like Giving Tuesday because it shows how our school actually cares about helping others, not just talking about it,” he said. “Even small donations can do something good.”
Junior Isabella Diaz shared a similar thought.
“It feels good knowing that what we give helps the Sisters do more retreats and help more students,” she said. “It reminds us that kindness doesn’t have to be big to be important.”
Another student, Junior Martina Hoyos, added, “Giving Tuesday makes our school feel more connected. When everyone participates, it feels like we’re working as one community.”
Giving Tuesday isn’t just about money—it’s also about learning the value of giving, compassion, and community. Many teachers remind students that supporting the Salesian Sisters is part of the school’s mission to live out faith through action. By donating, students help keep the spirit of service alive on campus and beyond.
As this year’s Giving Tuesday comes to a close, the message is clear: when the La Salle community comes together, the impact reaches far beyond the school walls.
