The 2026 Golden Globe Awards took place on January 11, bringing together some of the biggest names in film and television for a celebration of the year’s best in film and television. Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the Golden Globes again this year, making it her second year in a row as host.
Along with comedy, memorable speeches, and standout moments, the ceremony also showed a change in the entertainment industry by introducing a new category recognizing podcasts. The first-ever Golden Globe Award for Best Podcast was awarded to Amy Poehler for Good Hang with Amy Poehler. The addition highlights how storytelling continues to grow beyond film and television.
Beyond the memorable moments and new additions, certain films and series dominated the night by taking home multiple awards. One Battle After Another and Adolescence were the most awarded projects of the evening, each taking home four wins. Among the honorees was sixteen-year-old Owen Cooper who is the youngest person to win an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award in one single award season, all for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series/TV Movie.
Sophomore, Isabella Heredia said, “I saw that Owen Co0per won and it totally was deserved. He did an amazing job in his show. He really is a fantastic actor at such a young age.” Cooper starred in Adolescence.
In addition to major award wins, the red carpet drew attention for its elegant fashion choices. Celebrities arrived in looks ranging from classic black gowns and tailored suits to more unique styles featuring bright colors and unique silhouettes. Nikki Glaser wore nine different outfits while hosting the award show including everything from beautiful ball gowns to a Marty Supreme ping-pong costume.
The night also celebrated achievements in film, with standout wins for Hamnet which took home the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture-Drama. Although the win was well-received, some people disagree.
Freshman Lucia Fink said, “I thought that the Frankenstein movie deserved that Golden Globe because it took an old, well-known story and made it feel brand new. It wasn’t just a horror flick; it was a deep look at what it means to be a human, and I think that kind of storytelling is exactly what these awards are meant to celebrate.”
Television was equally celebrated throughout the evening. HBO’s The Pitt won Best Drama Series, while Pluribus earned praise for Rhea Seehorn’s Best Actress in a Television Drama.
Music also played an important role in the ceremony, with several awards recognizing outstanding scores, songs, and soundtracks that brought this year’s films and shows to life. Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score for Sinners, while Best Original Song went to “Golden” from K-pop Demon Hunters, presented by pop star Charli XCX and singer and Stranger Things star Joe Keery.
Despite the excitement surrounding the ceremony, viewership for the 2026 Golden Globe Awards went down compared to previous years, raising questions about how the event is promoted to younger audiences. Some viewers believe the show may need stronger advertising or more social media outreach to remain relevant. Sophomore Myah Taher admitted, “I did not watch the Golden Globes because i don’t know what that is.”
Nevertheless, the 2026 Golden Globe Awards proved to be more than just a night of awards, offering memorable moments across film, television, music, and fashion. With new categories and record-breaking winners, the ceremony showed how entertainment continues to grow and change.
