The ILS Girls’ Soccer team advanced to the final with a 2-0 victory over Coral Shores. This semifinal game took place at the ILS field on Friday, January 23rd. The game started out as a tight match, with the two teams eager to secure the spot in the district final. The Coral Shores players were determined to defeat ILS, since they had previously lost in a match that ended with a score of 2-0.
The first half was intense, with both teams equally creating chances and the pressure on the field made it hard for ILS to find an early goal. The midfield was highly competitive, making it difficult for either team to create scoring chances. The first half ended scoreless, showing how evenly matched the teams were.
“I found this game really overstimulating. In the first half, I didn’t feel good, and I was not playing my best game; however, after half-time I started feeling better and was able to assist the goal that put us up 1-0,” said sophomore, Isabella Studenski.
After halftime, the ILS Girls increased communication and controlled possession. The first goal boosted momentum into the game as ILS took the lead. From that point, Coach Anthony Vuono made smart substitutions that later helped the team maintain a good and calm pace.
As the second half progressed, the ILS Girls maintained their intensity in both the offensive and defensive sides of the field. The defense remained strong and organized, preventing Coral Shores from finding any scoring opportunities. The goalkeeper and defensive line worked together to protect the lead until the final whistle.
“I was very relieved and proud that we won this important game. I’m especially thankful for the seniors, who have been contributing so much to the team. I am hoping we win the district final,” said sophomoreOlivia Rodriguez-Salum.
With the final score being 2-0, the ILS Girls’ Soccer team secured a spot in the district final. The semifinal victory showed the team’s determination and teamwork. The girls remain focused and motivated as they prepare for the district championship.
