Right now, Congress is considering new marijuana laws. Even though many states allow medical marijuana, it is still illegal under federal law. This causes concerns for those who use marijuana for medical reasons, including veterans.
Some of the bills being discussed would change how marijuana is treated at the federal level. If passed, these bills could make it easier for people to get medical marijuana legally. This includes people who use medical pens, oils, or other forms to help with pain, anxiety, or other health problems.
For veterans, this issue is very important. Some veterans use medical marijuana to help with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), chronic pain, or stress. However, because of federal rules, doctors at VA hospitals have limits on what they can recommend. Some veterans worry that using marijuana could affect their benefits.
“If someone needs it for health reasons, they shouldn’t have to be scared to use it,” said junior Maximo Biasutto.
Junior Isabella Diaz said she didn’t know federal law was different from state law.
“It’s confusing that it’s legal in some places but still illegal federally,” she said.
“For patients and veterans, changing federal marijuana laws could make daily life easier and less stressful,” she added.
Supporters of the new bills say the changes would help people get safer access to medical marijuana. They also say it would allow more research to be done. This could help doctors better understand how marijuana affects the body.
Other people think the government should move slowly and study it more before making big changes.
No final decision has been made yet, but the debate continues. For many medical patients and veterans, this is not just about politics: it is about health, treatment, and feeling secure under the law.
