The RCIA program, which stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a program run by Dr. Cristina Lopez-Hernandez and Mrs. Ana Roman Gonzalez and is a great opportunity for students, faculty, or staff at ILS who have not completed their three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. The program offers the community an opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith while completing the sacraments. It also allows participants to learn about their faith in a welcoming environment with others who are going through a similar experience.
Being able to learn while spending time with friends made the experience more enjoyable for him.
Students who have participated in the RCIA program at La Salle have had positive experiences. Francisco Garcia Fiorini, a student who participated in the program, said that joining RCIA helped him make great memories at ILS. He was able to complete his final sacrament, confirmation, while also spending time with his friends after school. Francisco said that throughout the program, he gained more knowledge of what confirmation is and that RCIA was usually the highlight of his day.
“Growing in my faith is something I definitely don’t regret,” he said.
Another student who participated in RCIA was Allan Blanco. Allan joined because he needed to complete his final sacrament, which was also Confirmation. His favorite part was learning more about the sacrament and what it means. Allan also enjoyed participating in the program.
“Doing the RCIA program was fun with my friends,” he said.
Allan definitely recommends RCIA to other students who still need to complete their sacraments. He believes it is a great way for students to finish their sacraments while learning more about their faith and spending time with friends. The RCIA program begins around the middle of the school year and continues until near the end of the school year. For students who still need to complete a sacrament, the program provides an opportunity to grow in their faith while sharing the experience with their classmates.
