As Halloween approaches Oct. 31, students and families are searching for creative costume ideas that stand out without costing too much money. From classic characters to matching outfits with friends, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the holiday. Three popular options this year include dressing as a movie character, creating a matching costume with a friend, and putting together a simple do-it-yourself outfit.

Superheroes

One option for Halloween is dressing as a favorite movie or television character. Superheroes, such as Spider-Man or Batman, remain recognizable choices, while characters from popular movies and shows give people a chance to show off their interests. These costumes can be purchased online or put together with clothes and accessories already at home.

Junior Santiago Garcia Palau was asked on what he plans to be this Halloween.

“This year my friends and I are going to be on a budget, but we want to be the Avengers. We have not got our costumes yet but we are going to try to make them DIY,” he said.

Dazzling Duos

A second idea is a matching costume with a friend. Partners can dress as characters from the same movie, famous duos, or even complementary items, such as a ketchup bottle and a mustard bottle. For example, two friends could dress as Mario and Luigi from the popular Nintendo video game series. One person could wear a red shirt and hat, while the other wears green, making the costumes easy to recognize. Matching outfits can make Halloween more memorable because both people contribute to the same idea.

Junior Juan Diego Quiros was asked on how he plans to spend Halloween this year.

“I plan to spend it with my girlfriend and we will be wearing matching couples costumes we put together from our favorite movies.”

DIY Costumes

A third option is making a do-it-yourself costume using items already available at home. A person could dress as a tourist with a colorful shirt, sunglasses, a camera and a hat. Another simple idea is a scarecrow costume made with a flannel shirt, jeans and a straw hat. These outfits can save money and allow people to customize their appearance.

Junior  Santiago Collimodio was asked on his opinion on DIY costumes.

“I like the idea of a DIY costume because it gives you full control over what you want your costume to look like while also saving money,” he said.

These three costume ideas offer different ways to celebrate Halloween Oct. 31. Movie characters allow people to represent their favorite stories, matching costumes help friends celebrate together, and do-it-yourself outfits provide an affordable alternative to store-bought options. Whether someone chooses a recognizable character, coordinates with a friend, or creates an outfit from scratch, the best costume is one that fits their personality, budget, and plans for the holiday.
