ILS Well Represented On 2020 Winter All-Dade Teams

Immaculata-La Salle had 27 student-athletes, ranging from boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and cheerleading, receive honors on The Miami Herald’s Winter 2020 All-Dade teams, which were released last week.

For boys’ soccer, junior Luis Sosa was a second-team selection. His fellow senior teammates Nicholas Podolla and Samuel Rodriguez were named to the third team. Furthermore, seniors Sebastian Giugovaz and Lucas Moreno, juniors Dylan Batalha and Ariel Sanchez, sophomores Nicolas Lopez and Andres Gutierrez, and freshman Lorenzo D’Agostini were honorable mentions.

Sosa recorded one goal and one assist this season. Podolla scored two goals and had one assist this season, and registered one of both in a victory over Archbishop Carroll. Rodriguez finished the season with a goal and an assist.

Amongst the girls’ soccer team, senior Sabrina Sousa and freshman Ashley Fonseca garnered first-team classifications. Senior Erika Austin and junior Deanna Prieto were second-team selections, along with junior Hanah Gonzalez, who’s a part of the third team. Senior Andrea Ulivi, juniors Isabella De La Rosa and Nicole Nielsen, sophomore Nabila Osmen, and freshman Gabriel Chong were honorable mentions.

Sousa, the team captain and a four-year starter, posted two goals and five assists in her final season at ILS. Fonseca, who was also was named to the United Soccer Coaches Florida High School All-State team, saved 36 shots and had six shutouts in her first season as a Royal Lion. Austin, a midfielder, scored one goal this year. Prieto scored five goals and added five assists this season. Gonzalez, who led ILS in goals and assists, registered seven goals and assists.

Senior Emilio Ramirez garnered a third-team nod. He averaged 20.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in the regular season, in addition to 27.3 points per match in the Royal Lions’ district playoff run.

For girls’ basketball, senior Camila Corvalan was the lone representative. Corvalan, a four-year player, posted a team-high 9.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 3.0 assists per contest this season. A top-three scorer over the past three seasons, Corvalan ends her ILS career having averaged 7.3 points per game.

The cheer team added onto their already historic resume, having been named the Super Varsity Non-Tumbling National Champions last week after repeating as Class 1A state champions. Seniors Maria Castro, Monse Vivas and Isabella Rubio, sophomore Silvana Levito and freshman Megan Dominguez were all named to the All-Dade First Team.
