This season for ILS baseball has been something of a roller coaster, but the seniors on the club earned a dominating victory on Senior Night ahead of the team’s district tournament run. The Royal Lions crushed Miami Sunset High School by a final score of 13-0.

The ILS baseball team had three seniors on this year’s roster, outfielder Nick Perez, catcher Dominic Sorondo and pitcher/first baseman Sebastian Paz. These three led the charge on senior night.

Paz paced the team with an amazing performance at the plate. He went 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. Sorondo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Nick Perez went 1-for-1 and also picked up two walks.

Paz lead the team in batting average this season, posting a .488 mark at the plate. Sorondo, meanwhile, lead the team in OBS (On-Base percentage) with a .531 average. Paz led the Royal Lions with 14 RBI and six stolen bases this season, while Sorondo led the team in runs scored (14). Sorondo registered 10 RBI this season as well.

Sophomore Nicolas Perez-Salah led the pitching staff for the Royal Lions this season. He posted a 2.92 ERA and threw two complete games for ILS. He registered four wins and led the team in WHIP (Walks-and-Hits-per-Innings-Pitched) with a 1.17 mark.

The Royal Lions finished the season with a 9-7 record. They were dominant at home this season, posting a 7-2 record as the home team. This is an improvement on the 4-4 record the team had last year prior to the COVID-19 shut down. These seniors have also seen growth in the program since their freshman year when the club went 10-13.

Although these three seniors will be missed, the ILS baseball program remains headed in the right direction with a number of talented young players returning for next season.
