Mitski’s Announces Her Upcoming Album
November 16, 2021
Mitski is a popular upcoming Japanese-American singer-songwriter. Mitski’s sound ranges from indie-rock, indie-pop, art pop, pop, and alternative. Mitski has recently announced that she will be releasing a new album, Laurel Hell on Feb 4, 2022 via Dead oceans. Laurel Hell will include 11 new songs. This upcoming album includes a previously shared single “Working for the Knife,” and a new song that was released “The Only Heartbreaker.”
“I needed love songs about real relationships that are not power struggles to be won or lost,” Mitski said of the new album in a statement.
“I needed songs that could help me forgive both others and myself. I make mistakes all the time. I don’t want to put on a front where I’m a role model, but I’m also not a bad person. I needed to create this space mostly for myself where I sat in that gray area,” she added.
Mitski explained the name Laurel Hell as a term from the southern Appalachians in the US, where these bushes grow in dense thickets, and once you get stuck in them, it is very difficult to find your way out. Mitski says she finds laurel flowers pretty and that she liked the notion of being stuck inside an explosion of flowers and perhaps even dying within one of them.
“I can’t wait for Mitski’s album release. I have loved both of the singles she has released for the album, and I do have high expectations for it. I listen to Mitski because I feel like she puts a lot of my feelings into words better than I can,” said senior Katrina Diaz-Balart.
