Hollywood, FL–The ILS Varsity Sailing Team competed in its first district regatta of the season in light and shifty conditions yesterday against 25 Florida high schools and dominated the event, winning in the overall standing by a comfortable 20-point margin.

The challenging conditions required the competitors to rely on excellent boat handling and tactical skills to respond quickly to the wind shifts and puffs. The race management team, supported by Pine Crest School, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and Lauderdale Yacht Club, executed a total of 14 races, seven for each of the A and B divisions.

Both the A and B boats also won their respective divisions. The A boat won four of the seven races and was skippered by sophomore Justin Callahan with crew of seniors Antonio Miranda and Chiara Kusmierek alternating.

The B boat held the lowest total point score of all 50 boats with just 16 points in seven races with two bullets (wins) and three seconds. The B boat was skippered by sophomore Mitchell Callahan with crew of sophomore Brianna Ross and freshman Danny Riano alternating.

Coach Lior Lavie was excited that all sailing team members in attendance contributed to this first district win.
