Travis Scott, American Rapper and record producer hosted an event/music festival in Huston, Texas on November Fifth. The event has taken place annually for three years, and is named after Scott’s 2018 album. The issues arose when earlier in the day festival goers began to bypass security, rushing into the venue, and knocking down security barriers. It is believed that most fans entered without tickets.
After all the other performers went on stage, there was a countdown which was displaying how much time was left until Scott would preform. During this time, it is said there was very eerie music and people started to rush towards the stage. As he started to perform, fans say they felt like they could not breathe because they were being compressed together. People began to panic as others began to fall out, and become unconscious.
Meanwhile, Scott continued to tell the crowd to “rage” or that he “wanted the ground to shake.” Eventually, an ambulance started to drive into the crowd to rescue people who had become unconscious and some even having lost a pulse. Scott’s partner, Kylie Jenner, influencer and daughter of Caitlyn Jenner and Kris Kardashian, even posted an Instagram story where the ambulance can be seen.
The show ended less then 30 minutes earlier than planned, with 10 casualties and more the 300 injuries. Although Scott saw someone passed out in the front and attempted to help, he and Drake, who joined him, continued to perform. Outsiders and traumatized festival goers, question why the show was not stopped when the crowd was very clearly in mayhem.
Among the casualties was Ezra Blount, a nine-year-old boy who attended the festival on his father’s shoulders. Once the crowd surge began, Blount’s father, passed out from the pressure and Blount fell from his shoulders. Blount was then trampled on, and by the time Trenton Blount, his father came to, he was already at the hospital, where he spent his last days.
The catastrophic event when viral on social media after several concert goers spoke out about their experiences. They explained that during the countdown there was very eerie music which made people anxious and it felt like it was causing headaches and making people nauseous. They also explained that there was a strange energy.
Scott spoke out about the tragedy recently and claimed he didn’t know people were dying until after the festival, even though the crowd was chanting to “Stop the show.” Because of the events that occurred Scott, was taken off the line-up for Coachella, a music festival mostly for the stars in California deserts, during spring.
“I used to be a fan of Travis Scott’s music, but after finding out about this tragedy, I can’t support him. I can only say I like his music,” said senior Hayet Faviola.
