Over the span of a few years, Netflix has lost subscribers in the U.S.

I’m sure we have all noticed that apps like, HBO Max and Hulu have taken over the streaming world, but why exactly have users steered away from Netflix?

Well, let’s be real.

When was the last time you opened Netflix and found a show or movie you actually wanted to watch?

Many students around ILS, such as Amy Pichardo, Daniel Barragan, and Manola Prat, agreed that the reason they prefer other streaming services over Netflix is because, “Netflix took off all of the good shows. There isn’t anything good to watch anymore.”

On August 26, 2022 Netflix released a statement in response to their noticeable decline in subscribers.

“Though we strive to keep the titles you want to watch, some titles do leave Netflix because of licensing agreements.”

Netflix explained that once a contract expires, the show or movie must be removed from the service.

Another reason for Netflix’s struggles comes from new competitors.

Services which a part from HBO Max and Hulu also include Prime Video and Apple TV, offering a wider range of  entertainment.

“I don’t use Netflix anymore. I only use HBO now because it has so many options that Netflix took away,” said freshman Kaylen Borges.
