Before the field-trip, SALTT invited all students to bring in school supplies. The list for inspiration included erasable pens, pencils, erasers, pencil pouches or pencil boxes, highlighters, mini-staplers, folders, spiral notebooks, and glue sticks. A wish list letter was additionally released, from a little girl by the name Sonia, only 10-years-of-age, currently attending 5th grade at Highland Elementary School. Thankfully her wishes were answered by our school’s charity, and passion to help others. Hence why, the field-trip was called ‘The Back To School Field-Trip.’

Due to the inconvenience of the hurricane, the trip got postponed twice. Finally on October 3rd,  students were  able to commence the trip. There were a total of two full buses; however, each bus deviated paths, separating and going to two different immigrant schools. Even though a senior, this was Pier Roca’s, also the senior class president’s, first SALTT trip. He was assigned the bus whose destination led to Highland Elementary School in Lake Worth.

“It felt fulfilling to see the children’s smile across their faces at the end of the day,” said Pier.

The students were divided into different stations. For example, one was the physical education station where activities such as who can hula-hoop the longest, egg on the spoon, bean bag, and sprint running races took place. In order to get the children to participate, they decided to add special prizes for each of the challenges.

“Fortunately, each child received at least a certificate for participation,” added Pier.
