The Annual HOSA Blood Drive

HOSA hosted their annual blood drive this week. Blood drives are incredibly important as blood is vital for hospitals. Students and faculty at ILS had the opportunity to donate. For every one person who donated blood, three to four patients may be saved by their donation. Though that should be motivating enough, as an additional incentive, participating students earned up to five service hours, a free t-shirt, and they got pulled out of class!

The blood drive provides a glimpse for HOSA students, HOSA, which stands for Future Healthcare Providers of America, is run by Mr. Jose Companioni.

“It just works so well with what we do and it provides a great example for the kids,” he said.

Blood drives can be seen as somewhat ominous because it deals with needles and blood. Despite that, there is actually. no risk to donors aside from a general feeling of  wooziness after donating.

When you are donating blood, you are not only helping others, you are helping yourself because along with donating blood, you are also getting tested for any autoimmune deficiencies or diseases which is incredibly important for keeping yourself safe.

So, don’t be scared to donate blood and save a life.
