Contrary to popular belief, Thanksgiving isn’t only about the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, mac and cheese, and pie. Thanksgiving stands for much more, including the foundation of humanity, caring for others. 

In case you forgot, Thanksgiving is a holiday that celebrates  a feasts among the Pilgrims and Native Americans in 1621. The feast lasted thee days and was based on the merging of two cultures and ethnicities. 

Apart from this historical aspect of this holiday,  Thanksgiving stands for celebrating life with  family and friends who make us appreciate what we have. 

Families all across the U.S. unite and join to have a sit down dinner where all troubles are put aside to truly enjoy each other’s company. 

The word Thanksgiving means the act of expressing or feeling thankful. In other words, it’s the act of giving thanks for what you’re grateful for. This sense of the word is often used in a religious context. For example, a prayer of Thanksgiving involves praying to express gratitude for the blessings in your life.

Not only does giving thanks benefit our hearts and our souls, it also has proven to bring positive emotions, find spirituality, have good experiences, improve health, build strong relationships, and connect with yourself.

The true meaning of Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favors, especially to God. It is an expression of thanks, especially to God and to what He has done for us . It is a public celebration in acknowledgment of divine favor or kindness.

Whether you are Catholic or not, gratitude is a beautiful way of enriching our lives. It refers to the feeling and attitude of appreciation and thankfulness for the good which we receive. It has been proven scientifically that when we express our gratefulness toward others, we feel happier and calmer.

Isaiah 12:4-5 (NASB) And on that day you will say, ‘Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His name is exalted.’ Praise the LORD in song, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the earth.
