The service club, Purple Hearts, spent time with veterans at the VA hospital where they distributed hand-made cards. Some of the members also read cards to patients.

Prior to Covid-19, ILS students participated in this activity regularly.

“It was an outstanding experience for everyone,” said Coach Carmen Grosso, himself a veteran.

Mrs. Yuliet Vega and Mrs. Mavelys de La Rosa advise the club serving as its directors.

“The members are outstanding students. It is a pleasure for me to be a part of their kindness and desire to help,” added Coach Grosso.

Members spent time November 10, the day before Veterans’ Day, at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center. The Purple Heart Club visited veterans to honor and recognize their sacrifices with thank-you cards.

With 20 members, the club President is Laura Cornide, Vice President-Olivia Mendez, Secretary-Gabriel Ballesta,  Treasurer-Megan Dominguez, and aside from Mrs. de La Rosa and Mrs. Vega, Coach Grosso is also a club moderator.

The Mission of Purple Hearts is to promote greater understanding of the armed forces and their dedication to protect the nation.
